Giovedì 12 gennaio 2012 Ex Elettrofonica presenta nei suoi spazi un progetto inedito di Stefano Minzi, Ouroborus, a cura di Manuela Pacella.
La ricerca di Stefano Minzi (Milano, 1976. Vive e lavora a Berlino) si concentra principalmente su due filoni: l’uno di memoria personale e familiare; l’altro smaccatamente politico. La base di partenza è sempre la fotografia, sia essa presa da un album di famiglia sia ‘rubata’ dai media come la televisione o internet. L’immagine fotografica viene poi trasferita sulla tela o sulla carta attraverso la stampa planografica la cui matrice, di carta e quindi deperibile, contraddice in fieri il principio di base dell’incisione, ossia la sua serialità. Alle icone mediatiche e alle immagini di famiglia, recentemente, Minzi ha aggiunto un terzo elemento che pervade ogni sua opera, l’astrologia e i vari significati simbolici connessi ai colori e alle forme.

Per gli spazi di Ex Elettrofonica Stefano Minzi propone un lavoro inedito composto da un grande serpente in stoffa che gira intorno all’albero centrale della galleria. Il serpente - posto a cerchio come simbolo dell’infinito, dell’eterno ritorno – ha la testa mozzata e, sotto di essa, vi sono 4 teste di stoffa di 4 colori e grandezze diverse. Il più piccolo e lontano nel tempo è Mussolini, stampato su stoffa blu poiché, nell’accezione negativa del colore, simboleggia la tirannide. Poi vengono Craxi – verde per l’invidia – e Andreotti – giallo di follia. Infine Berlusconi, il più grande perché il più recente, bianco come l’egoismo.
Le 4 teste sono a terra, sono monche del loro corpo e si stanno seccando.
Questa fase autunnale dell’Italia, che al momento manca di una guida, è contrapposta ad un aspetto positivo, rappresentato da tante personalità che sono prese a modello di un'Italia diversa, alternativa a quella delle stanze del potere: da Antonio Gramsci, Beppe Fenoglio, Camilla Ravera, Carlo Giuliani, Cesare Pavese, Gaetano Bresci, Gina Geleotti Bianchi, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Luce D'Eramo, Maria Montessori, Tiziano Terzani, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Peppino Impastato, Primo Levi, Rita Levi Montalcini, Roberto Saviano e Sandro Pertini.
L’idea delle maschere viene usata dall’artista come massima rappresentazione delle manifestazioni che si sono susseguite nell’ultimo anno. I volti di questi personaggi, storici o meno, saranno stampati su maschere di pelle animale divenendo simbolo del loro sacrificio.
In mostra verrà inoltre presentato The Giant Flipbook, qui esposto per la prima volta, che ritrae Silvio Berlusconi. Nelle 50 pagine che lo compongono, incisione dopo incisione, l’immagine dell’ex presidente del Consiglio scompare del tutto, rendendo palese il sottotitolo: Come ho digerito un dittatore mediatico.

On Thursday January 12th 2012, Ex Elettrofonica will present in its space a previously unseen project by Stefano Minzi, curated by Manuela Pacella.
The enquiry of Stefano Minzi (born in Milan in 1976 and living and working in Berlin) concentrates principally on two seams: one, personal and family memory; the other, blatantly political. The starting point is always the photograph, whether it be taken from a family album or ‘stolen’ from media like televison or the Internet. The photographic image is then transferred onto canvas or paper through a planographic printing whose matrix, made of paper and so perishable, contradicts in its making the basic principle of engraving; that is, its seriality.
To the media icons and family images, Minzi has recently added a third element, which pervades each of his works: astrology and the different symbolic meanings connected with colours and forms.
For the Ex Elettrofonica space Stefano Minzi proposes a previously unseen work with, at its heart, a large cloth snake that winds around the central tree of the gallery. The snake – placed forming a circle as a symbol of the infinite, of perpetual return – has its head cut off, and under it are four cloth heads of four different colours and sizes. The smallest and furthest in time is Mussolini, printed on blue cloth since, in the negative association of the colour, it symbolizes tyranny. Then come Craxi – green for envy – and Andreotti – madness yellow. Finally Berlusconi, the biggest because the most recent; white as selfishness.
The four heads are on the ground, they have been shorn of their bodies and are drying out. This autumnal phase of Italy, which at the moment lacks leadership, is set against a positive aspect, represented by many figures whose personalities represent the positivity of this country: from Garibaldi to Gaetano Bresci up to Pasolini. The masks represent the other Italy, the one that struggles daily and that manages to make the difference.
